Current Event

The debate on how to deal with the illegal crossing of immigrants has been a topic of conversation for some time. While this has been a popular subject, since the arise of the possible impeachment of our President Trump these topics have become less prominent. Now the question stands of what is happening now at our border. The number of migrants crossing the border, while still quite a significant amount, have decreased in the past summer and the past few months. Many people attribute these decrease in numbers to the threat of tariffs made by President Trump. One source from The New York Times says that the decrease in migrants coming to America is due to the crackdown of border patrol on these migrants. Another source from The New York Times claims that migrants might be waiting out this debate in neighboring cities. While I am not sure why there has been a decrease in migrants it is my strong opinion that the way President Trump and border patrol are handling the situation is not the way to go about it. The idea of tariffs, in my eyes, is unreasonable and does not make much sense. These tariffs were thought to affect a very specific group of people. By thinking of a solution that only affects a smaller group of people, while can be a solution, it comes off as though he isn’t even really thinking about everyone from both sides or just the public as a whole. While I can understand that there are other topics at hand that our Nation needs to handle, I believe that topics that have to consider the well being of our nation and the well being of people as human beings should be seen as such.

  1. Some good ideas here, Sofia. This is such an important topic to write and think about.

Suggestions: make sure you link and article and use evidence from that specific article. An image and paragraph breaks help, too.
